Adding more to my hospital stay, I'm glad that Rob didn't know that I could have visitors, as I was frail then, and also for a couple of days had a GI tube in my nose (really charming).

I have to speak about my bed. The mattress itself was quite comfortable, but because the bed could change positions, there were supporting bars to support the movement. THAT was very uncomfortable. My butt usually landed on it, and my back (usually not problematic) was screaming. The heating pad helped some. So did walking who I was able to.

The staff was exemplary. I was well taken care of, something I'm not really used to. Everyone was upbeat, and respected my wishes not to learn my odds of living. That is something I can't change, and if I knew it was 1% or so (for example), I might want to stop fighting at some point. Miracles do happen, and before this, I was pretty healthy, so I'm hoping that will help me , at least gain some years to see my son get married (if he wants, and finds the right girl) and to be able to play with my grandkid(s) long enough to remember who I was when my time comes.

Never go to a hospital for rest. My Dr.s would come, usually from 6AM, and I've clocked the last one at 11:30 PM.

If I were to review MA General, the only negatives are the bed, plus all the different Dr.s. I understand some have specialities, so I understand the need for different Dr.s My beef is that I would see different Dr.s in a particular practice. Sometimes the team would come in, and say something, like a projected plan, only to hear later that it changed, and not necessarily having to do with results of a test. I wish they would decide and when it was firm, let me know. What I mean is 3 or 4 Colostomy Drs, etc. It's hard to bond with a Dr. when it's a different now most of the time. Even the ones who canecto check on me during the day changed. I don't understand why they can't place 1 Colostomy, 1 GI, for example.

When my mother went through her Malignamt Melanoma, she was at Dana Farber, and had 2 Drs. That was the team. They got so close (professionally) that when she died (of a massive heart attack), I wrote a letter to the Dr (the other one  had died) to tell him all the things she was able to enjoy with the life she was given due to their care. She saw her granddaughter get married, and found out she would be a great grandmother, but unfortunately unable to meet.

I have tandem hospitals. I have MA General in Boston for the more complicated issues, and later on for radiation (as they don't do that here), and Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Luckily in my job at the Post Office, I get to know people, plus the 40 some odd years I've lived here. I deal with 2 Drs here, primarily, plus assorted nurses, but this hospital is small enough that you get recognized when you show up. Thank goodness you can look up records on the computer, so I don't have to say why I was here.
